Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly for the first time since his departure on New Year’s Day, saying he leaves the club with “inner peace” after guiding them to silverware and Champions League qualification.
Maresca’s 18-month tenure ended after his relationship with the Chelsea hierarchy deteriorated, despite delivering the Conference League and Club World Cup — the first trophies of the BlueCo era. He also secured a fifth-place Premier League finish last season.
However, Chelsea’s form dipped in late 2025, with just two wins in their final nine matches, leading to his dismissal.
Maresca’s Statement
On Instagram, Maresca reflected on his journey:
“LEAVE THIS WORLD A LITTLE BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT.
I leave with the inner peace of leaving a prestigious club like Chelsea where it deserves to be.”
He thanked Chelsea fans for their support and expressed gratitude to his players:
“Victories that I will always hold in my heart! A special thank you to all the players who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey.”
Context
Maresca’s exit came just hours before Liam Rosenior was announced as Chelsea’s new head coach. The Italian’s reign may have ended abruptly, but his role in delivering Chelsea’s first trophies under BlueCo ownership ensures his legacy at Stamford Bridge.
