Celtic Football Club have announced the dismissal of manager Wilfried Nancy after only eight matches in charge, following Saturday’s 3-1 Old Firm defeat to Rangers at Celtic Park.
Nancy, appointed on December 3 from MLS side Columbus Crew as Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor, endured a turbulent spell marked by poor results and mounting pressure. His assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen, and Maxime Chalier will also depart, while Paul Tisdale has left his role as head of football operations.
Nancy’s Short Tenure
- Became the first Celtic manager to lose his opening two games, falling to Hearts and Roma.
- Lost the Premier Sports Cup final 3-1 to St Mirren, missing out on early silverware.
- A 2-1 defeat at Dundee United gave him the worst start of any Celtic manager in history.
- Secured wins against Aberdeen (3-1) and Livingston (4-2), but momentum quickly faded.
- Crashed to a 2-0 defeat at Motherwell before the decisive Old Firm loss to Rangers.
Club Statement
Celtic confirmed the exits in a statement:
“Celtic Football Club today announces that it has decided to terminate the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy, with immediate effect. The Club thanks Wilfried for his efforts and wishes him and his family well for the future.”
What’s Next?
The defending Premiership champions will now look for stability after a turbulent managerial change. Club legend Martin O’Neill, who won seven of eight matches as interim boss earlier this season, could be considered again as Celtic weigh their options.
