Riyad Mahrez Brace Powers Algeria Past Sudan in AFCON 2025 Opener
Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez struck twice as the 2019 champions eased to a 3–0 victory over 10‑man Sudan in Rabat. Mahrez opened the scoring after just 82 seconds, thrilling the majority Algerian crowd of 16,115 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium. Now playing for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Mahrez doubled his tally after the hour mark before Ibrahim Maza sealed the win late on. Despite the emphatic start, Mahrez urged caution, reminding his teammates not to get carried away as Algeria chase another Africa Cup of Nations title.
