Cunha Rescues Point as United Draw 1-1 with Leeds

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim chose to see positives after his side battled to a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.

In one of English football’s fiercest rivalries, Matheus Cunha struck in the 65th minute to cancel out Brenden Aaronson’s opener just three minutes earlier. Despite late pressure from Leeds, United held firm to secure a point.

Leeds, who hit the post through Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s first-half header, extended their unbeaten run to seven matches and moved eight points clear of the relegation zone. However, their 23-year wait for a league win over United continues.

United, meanwhile, missed the chance to climb into the top four after back-to-back 1-1 draws against Wolves and Leeds.

Amorim’s Reaction

Speaking to TNT Sports, Amorim praised his team’s effort despite frustration at not securing victory:

“We had more control in this game than against Wolves. We controlled Leeds on set pieces and second balls. We had our opportunities to win the game. We are losing games on the details, but this year we are more in control.”

Injury and Absence Woes

United’s squad was stretched thin, with Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Mathijs De Ligt, Harry Maguire, and Mason Mount all sidelined through injury. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui were away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Amorim was forced to name a youthful bench featuring teenage twins Jack and Tyler Fletcher, Bendito Mantato, and 17-year-old Godwill Kukonki.

Match Summary

The Bigger Picture

United have now won just three of their last 11 league matches, collecting six points from their last five. The pressure is mounting on Amorim, with fans voicing frustration after recent results.
