Ferrari has officially parted ways with Zhou Guanyu, who served as the team’s reserve driver during the 2025 Formula 1 season. The announcement comes as the Maranello outfit reshuffles its lineup ahead of the 2026 campaign.
Zhou, 26, joined Ferrari last year alongside Antonio Giovinazzi after losing his Sauber seat at the end of 2024. He was no stranger to the team, having previously been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy between 2014 and 2018.
In a farewell message, Ferrari wrote: “Grateful for Zhou Guanyu’s commitment and contribution as Ferrari Reserve Driver this season! Wishing him all the best ahead.”
🔎 Zhou’s Ambitions
Zhou had hoped that staying within the F1 paddock would help him secure a race seat for 2026. His main target was the new Cadillac F1 team, set to debut as the championship’s 11th entrant this year.
Speaking earlier in 2025, Zhou told F1.com:
🚗 Cadillac’s Decision
Cadillac ultimately opted for experience, signing Sergio Perez (formerly of Red Bull) and Zhou’s ex‑Sauber teammate Valtteri Bottas. That decision leaves Zhou once again without a contract for the upcoming season.
🏁 What’s Next
With no confirmed seat for 2026, Zhou faces an uncertain future in Formula 1. His determination to return remains clear, but opportunities are limited as teams finalize their lineups for the new season.
