Two‑time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is recovering in hospital after surviving a tragic car accident in Lagos, Nigeria. The 36‑year‑old British‑Nigerian boxer was travelling in the back of a black SUV when it collided with a stationary truck, killing two of his closest friends.
Kolawole Omoboriowo, Joshua’s longtime associate who manages his logistics in Nigeria, broke the devastating news to the boxer’s family. He described the aftermath as a “crazy nightmare for everyone,” recalling how panic spread as relatives tried to confirm details of the crash.
Among the victims was Latif Ayodele, whom Joshua considered more than a friend — “like a twin brother.” Another close companion, Sina Ghami, also lost his life in the collision.
Joshua, who had been on holiday in Nigeria following his December victory over Jake Paul in Miami, sustained only minor injuries. Yet the emotional toll is immense. Omoboriowo emphasized that while Joshua appears physically fine, the loss of his best friends has left him deeply shaken.
“Right now we just want everybody to give AJ a moment to relax, rest, and pray for him,” Omoboriowo told Sky News. “We need God to give him the strength to carry on with these losses.”
Joshua, born in Watford to Nigerian parents, remains admired worldwide not only for his achievements in the ring but also for his humility and warmth outside it. Fans across the globe are rallying behind him during this difficult time.
