Ryan Mason Admits He Is “Not Immune” After West Brom Defeat

West Brom head coach Ryan Mason admitted he is “not immune” to criticism after fans turned against him during Albion’s 2-1 home defeat to Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.
Supporters voiced their frustration with chants of “Ryan Mason, your football is s* just after the hour mark, following first‑half goals from Anis Mehmeti and Ross McCrorie that gave City the perfect start. Ousmane Diakite struck late in the 85th minute, but it was only a consolation as Albion slumped to back‑to‑back defeats and remain 16th in the table after eight straight losses on the road.
“I am not immune to anything,” Mason said. “I am not going to sit here and ask for patience. It’s normal. That’s football. I understand the emotion and the passion. We’ve lost too many games and with that comes frustration.”
Mason, who previously played for Tottenham and briefly managed the club, insisted the only way to turn things around is to win games. He also criticized officials for two key decisions: allowing City’s first goal despite an offside player interfering, and only booking Mehmeti for an alleged elbow on Callum Styles.
“There were two massive mistakes by the referee,” Mason added. “The first goal was clearly offside in my opinion. Joe (Wildsmith) would have saved it if their striker hadn’t been there. And Mehmeti’s challenge was reckless with no consequence.”
City head coach Gerhard Struber admitted his side were fortunate with the first goal but praised Mehmeti’s quality and his team’s mindset. “It was a really efficient performance in the first half,” Struber said. “We showed a strong confidence from the kick‑off, which made the difference.”
